Are Your Breathing patterns causing your BACK PAIN?
Do you suffer from BACK PAIN
In treating your back pain has your allied health professional ever assessed your breathing patterns?
Your breathing pattern is essential in contributing or preventing LOWER BACK PAIN and developing a strong core.
“Yes it is ok to look fat when I breatheâ€
The most natural way to breathe is via our diaphragm, but due to lifestyle factors such as tight clothing, our obsession with looking thinner we have changed our breathing patterns.
So how should we breathe?
When you breath in your diaphragm pulls down pushing your stomach out. Secondly your chest size of your chest increases so your lungs can fill with air in.
Correct order: Stomach Rises
Chest Rises
Most people only breath through their chest as they have been conditioned to hold their stomach in.
So how can this incorrect breathing pattern cause back pain?
When you do not breath correctly your deep abdominal muscle known as your Transverse Abdominus becomes weak and sometimes does not even active correctly. When this occurs it is not able to support the person’s spine, leading to a weakness in the lower back and an increased risk of back injury.
One of the first setps to strengthening your core and preventing back pain is to learn to breath correctly.
