Zumba® Class
Zumba is the fun and energetic fusion of dance and aerobics, set to the beat of Latin rhythms. Beto Perez, the creator of Zumba, started this fitness craze almost by accident. When arriving to teach his regular aerobics class her realized he had left his music at home. Instead he grabbed the only music on hand, a tape of fast-paced Latin tunes. The class was a huge success and Zumba was born.
There are three reasons behind Zumba’s popularity. The first is that it’s fun. Many who attend a Zumba class claim that they don’t feel like they are exercising at all. The second reason is that it’s easy. The moves are simple to learn, so you don’t need a lot of co-ordination to get them right. The last reason is that participants see fantastic results. Zumba can help you lose weight and tone up all while having a great time.
The Zumba dance moves are based on many different styles. Salsa, Mambo, Tango, Hip Hop and Belly Dancing have all had an influence on the Zumba class.
What Results Can I Expect From Zumba?
Zumba dance fitness class is an aerobic activity, which means you will burn calories. You will also be increasing your cardiovascular fitness. Zumba has also been designed with muscle tone in mind. Like many group fitness classes, Zumba uses interval training and can be found in a
gym. After a fast paced cardio track, you will recover to a slower paced track which will focus on building strength.
Zumba dance fitness aims to work your body from head to toe. You’ll do wonders for your cardiovascular fitness, but will also be improving your core strength as well as focusing on trouble areas such as the thighs, arms and buttocks. You can complement your work out with toning sticks, a Zumba created product designed to increase the toning gained from the class.
What Happens During a Zumba Class?
A Zumba class will begin with the instructor introducing themselves and seeing if anyone in the class has any injuries that should be taken into account. If you are new, they will introduce themselves and give you some advice about the class. Zumba instructors must go through an in-depth training program before they are eligible to teach a class.
You’ll then begin with a warm up track, before moving on to more challenging cardio tracks, and slower moving strength-building tracks. There is a strong focus on building core strength so as to master the Latin dance moves.
Most classes will run for about 50 minutes. You’ll have plenty of opportunities during the class to break for a brief period so you can grab a drink.
Working out in a
gym is not for everyone. If in the past a regular workout has not been right for you, then consider giving Zumba a try. It’s fun and easy, participants claim that the time flies by. Best of all you’ll see fantastic results.
